 Expressing deep anguish over a spate of banking frauds, RBI Governor Urjit Patel said on Wednesday that like the 'Neelakantha', the central bank will consume poison and face brickbats, but will persist with endeavour to become better with each trial.

Breaking silence over the Rs 12,967 crore scam at PNB, he said: "I have chosen to speak today to convey that we at the Reserve Bank of India also feel the anger, hurt and pain at the banking sector frauds and irregularities."

Delivering a lecture at the Gujarat National Law University here, he said: "In plain simple English, these practices amount to a looting of our country's future by some in the business community, in cahoots with some lenders."

No removals have been submitted.

There is no proposal under consideration of the government to stop Rs 2,000 note,' Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan said in the Lok Sabha

The government on Friday categorically said there was no proposal to discontinue Rs 2,000 currency note, which was introduced post demonetisation in November 2016.




The government also informed the Lok Sabha that it had decided to conduct field trials of plastic currency notes of Rs 10 in five cites.



"There is no proposal under consideration of the government to stop Rs 2,000 note," Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha to a question whether the finance ministry has any plan to stop the note in near future.





The sizes of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denomination in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series is 66mm X 150 mm and 66 mm X166 mm, respectively.

The difference between the two currency notes is 10 mm for easy identification, he said in reply to another question.



As regards plastic notes, the minister said: "It has been decided to conduct field trial of plastic banknotes in denominations of Rs 10 at five locations"


The government had scrapped old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 9 with an aim to check black money and push digital economy.

he trial would be conducted in Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, Shimla and Bhubaneshwar, he said, adding that the note will be printed in Indian presses on imported substrate.

Over 93 percent support demonetisation in survey on PM Narendra Modi's app!

 Demonetisation has the support of over 93 percent of the 5,00,000 people who took the survey on the Narendra Modi app

, according to a statement put out by Prime Minister Modi's website. The release said only 2 percent viewed the demonetisation negatively.



 

An infographic on Modi's website said the survey on the Narendra Modi app received more than 400 responses every minute. The respondents were from 2000 different locations, with 93 percent of them in India. Also, 24 percent of those surveyed had responded in Hindi.,


 The 5 lakh who reportedly took the survey did so in just over 15 hours. The numbers released were up to 3:30 pm on Wednesday, and the poll had begun at 10 am on Tuesday.


"More than 90% of the respondents feel the government's move to tackle black money is above four-star rating. 73% of them give it five-star rating of brilliant," read the statement.


 On the overall fight against corruption, more than 92% of respondents either rate the government as very good or good. 57% of them rate the fight as Very Good," it continued.


"More than 93% people support the move todemonetize the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes . Of the over 5 lakh responses so far, only 2% have rated the move as very poor or one star," the statement added.
